Iyari Rep Takes Top Post at IWLEN
TARRACO (WRI) - In an impressive 6-0 vote, Rep. Alastair Adun of Iyari was elected Secretary-General of the Independent Wysterian League of Equal Nations this month, following a spirited campaign with his New Felix rival, Timothy Yerkes.
Earlier that week, another Felixian - Sen. Thomas Iselin - was elected Chancellor of the Wysterian Union.
Adun brings with him an impressive resume of diplomatic service: more two decades as Foreign Minister of the Grand Duchy of Iyari under the late Arch-Duke Solomon and current Arch-Duke Jefferson. He also brings a strong determination to give purpose and identity to a multinational organization that has appeared to be adrift for quite some time now.
Early in the campaign, Adun told IWLEN members "One of the reasons for IWLEN's initial demise was disunity and a lack of a clear objective. And today, IWLEN still has a reputation for moving slowly and being indecisive. I believe that this cannot change unless we look inward, and strengthen the alliances between our nations."
To cope with that problem, Adun has proposed a program to strengthen member economies, as well as to promote IWLEN on the international scene.
Rejecting the more activist military role of its closest rival, the Wysterian Union, Adun has called for IWLEN to promote peace "through peaceful means." Most recently, Adun fought hard to push through a resolution for aid to battle-weary Nephia, which recently persevered in another conflict with Wysterian Alliance forces.
In an apparent gesture to promote peace within the organization, Adun has invited Yerkes to take the post of deputy secretary general. Yerkes has not yet said whether he will accept the position, although inside sources indicate he is interested.
Adun, who succeeded Sir Ruíseart mac Raonùll Urquhart of Epona, will complete his term at the end of September.
