Real Life: Alternate Reality or Mythological Excuse?
Rivage Arénacé (WRI) - Scientists in this tropical paradise have announced the discovery of an alternate universe, nearly paralleling the lives of Wysterian residents.
"We stumbled across it quite by accident," said physicist Mitsou Curie in her laboratory at Université de Lavoie. "I was all prepared to do some work on a project which I have been planning for months, and then - pouf! - it suddenly stopped. More than a week later, I found myself at it again."
Looking closely into the mysterious incident, the prize-winning physicist discovered that her research - indeed, her entire life - had been put on hold while an entirely different being took a holiday in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
Alarmed by her discovery, Curie notified several other scientists. After months of painstaking research, they have dubbed this alternate reality "Real Life" or "RL" for short.
"This is absolutely astounding," said Grendel physicist Kuurag, speaking over the phone from Hackleburg. "But it answers a great many questions which have puzzling Wysterians for centuries. Such as, why does it take so long to get a diplomatic agreement going, or what exactly is the delay that inevitably occurs between the outbreak of a war and its final completion? And, exactly why does it take so long for countries to be updated in Wysterian atlases?"
Scientists are working on technology that will allow them to physically enter RL and explore it in depth, but until then, much remains to be answered.
"Well, another problem," said Curie, "is that as soon as I submitted my grant proposal for funding of the exploration, some guy in RL apparently had to work a late shift and I missed the deadline."
