Melcelene Senator Charles McVellen Reflects on WU Election Outcome

Senator Charles McVellen of Melcelene Reprinted with gracious permission of FelixWeek Magazine

Sen. Charles McVellen of Melcelene, who was defeated by Felixian Sen. Thomas Iselin in his bid for the chancellory of the Wysterian Union, discussed his plans for the future with the New Felix news magazine, FelixWeek.

FelixWeek: Senator McVellen, the big question first. You have the support of 1/3 of the WU Senate and numerous liberals and left-leaning centrists. Do you plan to use this support to run for the Chancellory again in December? You would presumably be challange Foreign Minister Keseus.

McVellen: As of right now, it is too early to say if I will run for the chancellery in December. I currently do not plan on running, although it is not out of the question.

FelixWeek: If you do plan to run again, what would you do differently? What do you wish you'd done differently in the previous campaign?

McVellen: If I do run for chancellor, I would like to start of my campaign earlier. Unfortunately, I was unable to visit several nations where I wanted to campaign. I would not make the same mistake next election.

FelixWeek: So far, the first three Wysterian Union Chancellors, and if High Minister Keseus succeeds Chancellor Iselin, the first four have been conservatives. Do you think liberalism has a future in the Wysterian Union, and do you have a plan to end the conservative domination?

McVellen: I do think there is a chance for liberalism in the WU Chancellery in the future. While the WU senate has both conservative and liberal senators, it largely does not vote just by party. I believe that liberalism will play an important role in both the senate and the chancellery.

FelixWeek: Although you have lost The Chancellory, do you still plan to push your agenda through the senate, such as the PfP Environmental restrictions?

McVellen: As a senator, I plan on pushing for environmental restrictions for PfP candidates. This issue is one I strongly support. Without these basic environmental standards, we chance to harm our environments.

FelixWeek: If you were Chancellor right now, how would you handle the War in Nephia, which has now come to a direct standstill around Omni after a rapid WU incursion? Who would've been your hypothetical Minister of Collective Defense?

McVellen: If I had been elected Chancellor, I would continue on much the same path of which is happening now. I would have become chancellor at the same time as our troops surrounded Omni. I would not have withdrawn our troops, and would instead remain around the city, actively searching for a Zakommian trap. While I did have a candidate in mind, I had not planned to tell them until after the election. Therefore, I will not release my choice without their consent.

FelixWeek: Lastly, do you have anything to say to the billions of Wysterians and the thirty-four senators that voted for you?

McVellen: I would like to thank both the senators and the people who voted for me this election. It was an honor to be your choice for the chancellery, and I ask for your support in the upcoming months.
